Fundamental Guild Wars Question
Hello folks,
This will become obvious in a second, but I'll preface this by saying that I've never played Guild Wars. My friend and I enjoy playing co-op games together. Is Guild Wars set up in such a fashion that we will be able to do this easily? We're not fans of spending a half hour or more of trying to find each other only to lose one another before finding each other again. We are by no means video game idiots, but I suppose we just appreciate a game that makes it easy for us to play together. Based on my incredibly vague description above, does this seem like the type of multiplayer experience that we will enjoy? As far as the scope of the game, it seems like a no-brainer. I played Everquest for years and have beaten (seemingly) every reasonable hack-and-slash game released. We are, by no means, strangers to the genre. Any feedback would be appreciated. Allow me to thank you in advance for your time! Pem |

Consider GW town as a single chat room.
For example, Ascalon (chat room name) -- District 1 (chat room number), join the same town with your friend and go to the same district, then you can find him within no time. |

Hi,
Well in the PvE (Player vs. Environment) you can create "parties" so that you and your friend play together. In PvP (Player vs Player), you'd have to be in the same guild and play PvP games such as TA (Team Arena), AB (Alliance Battle) or GvG (Guild vs Guild). Again you create a party to participate in a game. In both cases, "finding" each other is straighforward: in PvE you meet in the same "outpost" (town/city) and the same "district" (akin to "server": English District 1/ED1, or International District 3/ID3 for example); in PvP you meet in guild halls (or the same way as in PvE if you use a PvE character to play PvP). I hope this is clear and answers your question. Let us know what you do not understand in my message. Last edited by Fril Estelin; Dec 19, 2007 at 09:02 PM // 21:02.. |

Also, you'd have to start in the same campaign to play together right away. i.e. you wouldn't be able to meet up for a while if one of you starts in Nightfall and one in Prophecies (what original Guild Wars is now called.)
I assume you would do this anyway, but just wanted to make sure you knew. Other than that it's very easy. You can "Map Travel" to any town you've previously been to by clicking it on your map. You won't need to walk or take a ship for a 1/2 hour to find each other. Hope that helps and Welcome to GW!! |

Thanks for the input guys. It sounds like it's very straightforward. I look forward to the journey!

I've had some of the best experiences playing with 2 or 3 others. 3 heroes each = full party with only 2 human players. It works quite nicely and is easy to manage only 2 people rather than 8 crazed pick ups from town. For some of the elite/HM missions you'll need to venture into full human groups, but you can beat all three campaigns & EOTN with 2 humans and their heroes without talking to anyone else

Yeah, me and another friend just recently started up in the game. Even though we now live hundreds of miles apart, it's like the good old day playing Diablo 2 on the LAN
Not quite as easy as partying up in WoW, but hardly rocket science. As others have explained, just message where one of you is at, the other maps there, party, go. |

Something that no one else mentioned but may also be of help is your friends list. Once you add each other to your friends list you can whisper to each other whenever you are online. This is account wide so once added, any of your characters will show on each other's lists.
If you belong to the same guild you can always meet in your guild hall form a party and map together anywhere you both have previously been. Hope you both enjoy the game, have fun! |

my husband and I got this game so we could specifically play together, so yeah you can play with each other and ignore the rest of the player base without any problems, you can add henchmen to help you on the higher levels, and if you get nightfall (or gwen) you can add your own heroes to help you! Or if you feel like playing with others you can join a guild, get into a pick-up group (pug) and play with people you meet (some of which you may even calls friends). The choices are all yours!
enjoy! |

And, of course, there's always Ventrilo or Teamspeak.
